Rep. Baron Hill vs. the Crazy Kooks

Baron Hill is a Congressman representing Southern Indiana. He is a moderate of the "Blue Dog" conservative Democrat variety. He also voted against the bailout both times. Since 1998, his election victories have been extremely close. For example, he has only earned more than 51% of the vote one time. He even lost his seat in 2004 in a tight election before winning it back 50%-45% in 2006.

This year should be different. Baron Hill is running against some goofy Republican and an equally kooky Libertarian.

According to Third Party Watch, The GOP candidate challenged the Libertarian candidate to a debate while hooked up to a lie detector test. On the surface, that sounds nice. But in reality, lie detectors don't work that way. Lie detectors require simple "yes" or "no" answers to be accurate. They also require pre-interviews where the person being questioned must be very knowledgable of the questions to be asked. So in reality, this debate would have to be all "yes" or "no" answers, and we all know that politicians are more than capable of handling that requirement.

What all this means is that in conservative Southern Indiana, things are so bad that the Republican opponent has reduced his campaign into a very lame publicity stunt. Obviously, the Libertarian guy would jump all over this stunt, because, let's face it, the Libertarian Party is a marginalized organization that never quite made it and is now in the middle stages of completely disintegrating.

Congrats to Rep. Hill on his upcoming victory.
